In 2015, the United Nations approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – an opportunity for countries and societies to embark upon a new path to improve the lives of all people, leaving no-one behind. The Agenda comprises 17 Sustainable Development Goals, stating that poverty eradication must be accompanied by strategies that promote economic growth and address a range of social needs, including education, healthcare, social protection, and job opportunities, while simultaneously combatting climate change and safeguarding the environment.
